Happiness Inspiration #HealthHop

This week we received a copy of our youngest son’s School Sensory Profile. For the first time in writing he officially had Sensory Processing problems.  It detailed which areas and at what classification compared to his peers. He scored definite difference (meaning that his sensory processing difficulties were much more than others) in many areas. There was also a breakdown of how he is affected at school and ways to help. This report did not make me sad at all; I know my son has difficulties and is developmentally behind his peers. But I tell you what my son is – he is HAPPY. Just take a look at that expression on his face.

You know this photo was taken last Monday. It was a confusing time for him as he was going back to school after half term. A week from his normal routine, which also included a holiday and a birthday. Not only that he had been told that he would have to leave school to visit the doctor, and did not understand why because he was not ill. Despite all this confusion he remained Happy. He just stuck a pair of pants on his head and a sock on his arm to help him cope.

You know next time I feel sad I might just see if sticking a pair of pants on my head and a sock on my arm helps!

Every morning he bounces out of bed, so full of life, energy and happiness. He comes in and gives the biggest cuddle and then starts quoting The Lego Movie, “morning apartment.”Life can be so muddled and so confusing for him, and yes he gets upset (too easily at times), but no matter what life has already thrown at him he is so happy.

Other sources of inspiration that help me focus on how Happiness can really help in my life are from Tiredmummyoftwo and her family. If you are lucky enough to go to Britmums Live you will see that Laura is one of the Keynote Speakers.  They  really made me stop and question my own lack of happiness. I hold on to too much anger and I need to let it go. I have started to #EmbraceHappy (thank you Karin Joyce) and just focus on the good in life. I hear that Jayne is setting up a self-confidence challenge too, loving yourself is the most important step to happiness.

Which reminds me of why I tried the 30 day ab challenge. After crying the first day at being unable to do even one sit up I have decided not to accept defeat but just to regularly exercise and build up to it. Maybe I will do the 30 day challenge on a different 30 days.

  2. Good for you!!! We all should focus on the happiness a little more, I am at fault of this too but I do try my best to be the positive and grateful type person. We are human though and it happens when we get a little hard on ourselves. Good for you too for not giving up on the 30 day challenge. I was trying to do it and gave up but I couldn’t do any of it. But I have started again and hopefully this time you have motivated me not to give up. Love the photo of your little boy he is so cute. And yes very happy indeed. #magicmoments

  5. The thing I want most for my children is for them to be happy people because that essence of happiness will see them through the tough times. It’s through my children that I’ve learned to let go of a lot and enjoy being happy in the moment too. A gorgeous smiley little face and I hope you can continue to embrace the happy 🙂

  8. Underwear on your head is the new way forward!! I always try to focus on the positive, but there are always times when that is harder than others- luckily my life is pretty blessed so most of the time I am happy!

  9. Happiness is a state of mind and if you can find away to let that anger go and look at all that is positive in your life right now, and there is a lot, then happiness will follow. Lovely post.

  13. It must be helpful to receive the report Joy so you have in writing whats happening. Your son looks remarkably happy, love the photo of him with a sock on his arm, There’s something to be said about playing with socks – we did it just the other day!   15. Inspiring! I also hold on to too much anger and sometimes when I am upset I realise that instead i should embrace the happiness. My girls are always so so happy!

  17. You are so right, and why cant we all put pants on our head. I went to some laughter yoga classes a while back, and it made me feel so much better. Laughter and happiness seems so easy for children, that as a parent I am determined to bring it back into my life. I love quoting the lego movie, and “Honey where are my pants” is usually enough to bring a smile to my sons face if he has had a bad day! Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m pleased that you have got somewhere with his diagnosis as it is frustrating when you know that there is something wrong and no-one believes you. He sounds like he is a real credit to you and good luck busting those abs, I think you are amazing

  20. I am also trying to do a 30 day ab challenge but in a more personal level. I just started doing ab exercise while my son is at school and started yesterday. Must be working cuz now I cant sleep cuz my abs hurt =P #magicmoments

  22. What a lovely post! I think it’s so hard sometimes to find happiness in the small things. i get so bogged down by everything. This has really inspired me to think more positively.
