Father’s Day Play Ideas

Why Father’s Day is a Big Deal in our House

fathers day toy ideasFather’s Day is a pretty big deal in our house but then that is because my children have such an amazing dad! He begins being a fantastic father as soon as a child should wake – even if that is in the middle of the night! Then he helps with the morning task of making sure the children are fed, watered, teeth brushed and dressed, as well as household tasks like unloading the dishwasher on and putting some clothes in the machine, before taking our son to the school bus stop! After a full day at work, often without taking a break, he will come home and cook, clean, iron, make sure any homework is done and play with the boys before putting them to bed, order the online shopping and do more tasks around the house. Not forgetting all the DIY which includes installing our new bathroom and sorting anything to do with the cars. Of course these are just the things he does related to being a great dad – there’s loads more things that make him a perfect husband too but I guess you get the idea. Therefore you will see a range of posts on how we are making him feel special this year.

You are never too old to Play

My husband is young at heart and loves to play, and as mentioned with his boys. He is lucky in that he also has his birthday (and wedding anniversary) around Father’s day so is extra spoilt. This year he is having a Playstation Vita but other ideas for Father’s day for those who do not want to spend so much money are:

Schleich DC Comic Figures

Men never grow too old from playing Superheroes and Villains – do they? What better way for a dad to spend time on Father’s day than playing with his child. These are suitable from aged 3 and have no upper age limit. Simple to take out of the packaging and no batteries required, so play can begin immediately. They come in sets of two so decide whether you think the dad in your life will prefer Batman vs The Joker or Superman vs Darkseid. They have a great base which means you do not have to hold them to stand up – perfect for putting on display or dad taking to work and putting on his office desk. What better way to help him get through the working day thinking fondly of those hours playing together. Of course he could leave them at home and let his son/s and/or daughter/s enjoy them. The figures are around 10cms tall each and are in fixed iconic poses. There are no moveable parts or pieces that come off but it is recommended that they are not given to a child under 3 years old.

Minions Ravensburger 3D Puzzle: Big Ben Minion Mayhem

I know a lot of men loved Despicable Me and there was a lot of Minion merchandise bought for them at Christmas. So with the release of the new Minions movie then this 3D Minions puzzle is sure to be a hit this Father’s day. Recommended for those age 10-99 this puzzle would be perfect for the Father with older children or for some time on his own. The numbered puzzle uses easyclick technology so it is sturdy without requiring any glue. The 216 pieces stand 41cms (16 inches) tall. With a gorgeous Union Jack base, plastic puzzle pieces with arrows to help show you which way up they go, hinges, supports and a spire. I think this would be a great stand-alone present or as a clue to a special visit to London. Allow plenty of time to build it (about 90 minutes I think), as just sorting out the numbered pieces takes a long time.

I was sent Schleich DC Comic Figures and Minions Ravensburger 3D Puzzle: Big Ben Minion Mayhem for purposes of review, all words and opinions are my own.

  1. Great gift ideas! I love the Ravensburger 3D jigsaws, we have a couple of them and my son loves doing them over and over again, I love that the way the pieces are numbered means that even little ones can help to sort out the pieces and then assemble with the help of an adult.

  2. Aww I love this post!

My OH has his birthday around Father’s Day too and it’s hard thinking up lots of presents for him. Love those superhero figures.
