Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland

Lewis Carroll Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass – 150th Anniversary Edition

Alice's Adventures in WonderlandLewis Carroll’s timeless classics Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass have been brought together for this beautiful 150th Anniversary edition. Written to entertain the daughter of a Dean, Alice Liddell, young Alice is the star of the story encountering the White Rabbit, the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and many many more unforgettable characters – who make this story truly incredible. A mix of literary genius, linguistic inventiveness, puzzles, jokes, broken up by gorgeous illustrations by Lewis Carroll himself. Popular with the old and young a like for its nonsense approach.

eat me cookiesAlice’s Adventures in Wonderland is ingeniously written and was really good for showing my bookworm some more complex grammar (such as the one paragraph that was actually only one sentence). It is quite different reading the book to watching the films – an experience that I feel everyone should have. You cannot feel the change in the writing when it is not in a book, or appreciate when the words curve down the page. It is recommended for those ages 8+ and any younger I do not think they will fully appreciate the complexity of such a remarkable work of art. If you are not familiar with the story you can read the synopsis.

  1. I love the Mad Hatter. He is just pedigree cool.
“Mad Matter: “Have I gone mad?”
Alice: “I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”

  2. The Cheshire Cat – the smile is infectious though some say sinister. I just see it as Cheerfulness on Overdrive!

  8. Alice herself – she’s the one you relate to, and I love the image of her in the dress and apron. Just calls to mind all those Victorian kids’ stories.

  9. I can’t really pick a favourite thing about Alice in Wonderland other than I love it all, I love all the different characters which relate to society now..showing no one is the same and were all different and that’s not a bad thing. I love the whole idea of a secret world tucked away somewhere all going about their business while no one has a clue about them, I love the clothes, the characters and way Alice and the characters speak, its so lovely to hear actual worlds rather innit GR8 sick and dude..I adore the way they spoke in victorian times it was so much more elegant and sophisticated. All in All I love Alice in Wonderland and I enjoy reading it to each of my 4 children.

  12. I always liked the caterpillar who sat on the mushroom. I think I was taken by the fact that he answered in riddles and the book I read had a fabulous picture of him sat there 🙂
