New Year Beach Picnic

I have to say I love that my children, no matter how many toys they have, no matter how much they love sitting on computer games they love to go out too. So when I had a crazy idea that for New Year’s Day we would go to the beach for a picnic they were really excited! (Maybe the 12 year old less so and the 19 year old decided to stay home!)

New Year Beach Picnic

I have to say there were a fair few people on the beach this New Year’s Day – but no one else seemed to be sat having a picnic. Yes it was a crazy idea and we got so cold sitting still on my picnic blanket on the sand (again only me and my youngest brave enough to sit on the beach, the others used a wall). They even seemed fine with the fact that most of the picnic was fruit – okay I exaggerated there and had to bribe them to eat the fruit in return for some Pringles (left over from Christmas).

Then we had a run around on the sand – luckily in wellies, because it wasn’t long before they found some great big puddles of water to splash about in! Oh and had I mentioned that the rain waited until we arrived at the seaside before coming down (we live like an hour away from the beach!)

They found sticks and drew pictures (and more pictures with just their hands!) – in fact my youngest wrote Mum and a heart and told me it meant he loved me. What a truly wonderful way to start the New Year.

Then we headed for the indoor shopping area in search of warmth, (free) toilets and a last minute treat (which we didn’t find) before returning to the car for another cheeky chocolate chip biscuit.

By the time we arrived home it was getting dark. Just the right amount of time to feed the boys dinner and let them play before a story and bed.

Happy New Year.

  1. Sounds like a lovely day. We live a good 2.5 hours drive from the nearest beach, but I would so do this if we lived closer!! Happy new year xx

  2. Sounds like a great new year’s day beach trip. I’d have probably done the same – I can’t resist a beach, although round here it would have been way too windy for eating.

We went out on a bike ride and walk the other day – in the rain. Sometimes you just need to get out and sod what the weather’s doing.

    Happy new year.

  3. I absolutely love this idea. In fact Mrs Adams and I were hoping to have a day out in Brighton over the Christmas break but it hasn’t happened for a variety of reasons. I love a winter visit to the beach! #CountryKids

  4. I only have one picture on #CountryKids but it’s exactly the same theme as yours – a fabulous beach walk although for us it was on Boxing Day … and it was mild enough to sit on the sea wall WITHOUT coats whilst quaffing hot chocolate and gingerbread stars!

  5. Beach visits are definitely a favourite in my family too and it’s the one thing I can usually count on all 6 of mine being up for. It looks like the boys had a great time running around the beach and enjoying the fresh air, even if it was a little chilly to eat the picnic. It’s a shame the rain arrived as you did but at least you all braved it anyway and had a great New Years Day. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.

  7. Ha looks like great fun 🙂 me and some friends did the same when I was pregnant with Bear. We sat and had a picnic and tea on the beach with a storm kettle and a fire in January with blankets. It was great 🙂
