Sun Holiday to Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village

We went to Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village in the South of France near Montpellier. It is close to both Spain, Andorra and Italy if you wished to travel a little. If you are looking for a relaxing beach holiday then this place is for you.

Cost of Our Sun Holiday to Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village

We visited Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village for a Sun £15 Holiday visiting from Monday to Monday in July. Based on 5 people we paid a total price of £145.30. That is £75 (£15.00 per person) plus the £2.80 booking fee; then a £7.50 per night service fee (£52.50) and FREE entertainment. Then there was a £15 Equipment Damage waiver (you can instead opt for a £100 refundable deposit if no equipment is damage).

I usually pay the insurance (£8.50 a trip I believe), but we broke the journey up by doing 3 Sun Holidays starting at La Croix du Vieux Pont and on the way back we went to Les Genêts, so it was cheaper for us to take out one lot of insurance for the trip separately. This was the same with the Ferry – it is cheaper to book through the Sun Holidays but check if your vehicle isn’t just a standard car (for example if you have a top box) – we couldn’t because of the length of our holiday.

About Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village

Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village is a family friendly camp with animals to see, a bouncy castle, play areas, kids club, entertainment and bars – as well as things to borrow from Eurocamp such as board games, body boards, woggles, beach balls, bucket and spades. They even have suntan lotion, a pump and nappies. There is also a cycle hire place on site, supermarket (with tapas bar), bakery and gelato shop – as well as market stalls. There is also a Hyper-u not far away, which has a fuel station which you can pay with cash and a McDonalds. Montpellier is still quite a drive away and we personally felt that the campsite was quite isolated if you didn’t have a car to get around with.

Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village is a great site for those who love swimming, playing on the beach and/or sun-bathing. Boasting two separate pool complexes (one with specific opening hours and life-guarded the other not – this we didn’t actually find until we were going home, it was behind our accommodation) with (3) water slides, a lazy river (well sort of) and plenty of sun loungers – as well as being right next to a beach (which is family friendly but there is the odd topless woman). It is mostly a sandy beach but with some pebbles and shells on it too. It is so close to Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village that you can walk there with no shoes on – there is just a gate separating the camp and the beach (which apparently closes at 9:30pm – which was a shame because it was just before the sunset when we were there). Parts of the beach are also life-guarded.

The entertainment programme didn’t cover every day we were there and the animals weren’t open when they were meant to be on some days; plus the entertainment programme was only written in French and some of the flyers provided had money off vouchers but were out of date. We were’t provided with a map as Mediterranee Plage Camping Village is quite small – but that’s also how we missed the swimming pool. The other thing to be aware of is that there are a lot of bugs flying around – but they seemed to be harmless and we didn’t have a problem with them (well apart from The Sensory Seeker being a bit frightened).

Beaches near Le Mediterranee Plage include Portiragnes Plage: Languedoc (beach and water sports); Valras-Plage (beach, water sports and marine life); La Redoute (snorkelling, banana boats and paragliding); Cap d’Agde (11 fine sand beaches – including nudist) – Plage du Mole; Grand Mairei (bird and kayaks); Vias Beach (family focused); Portiragnes (family friendly) and Serignan.

Sun Holiday Accommodation at Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village

Our accommodation at Le Mediterranee Plage Camping Village had 3 bedrooms – one with a double bed, one single bed (with a bed underneath that slides out) and another room with two singles. The side with the double bed has a door that adjoins to a room with sink and shower – which is the opposite side to where the toilet is. We did have trouble with our toilet where we had to give it a tap for it to refill and the shower did leak out of the top (so you had to be careful that the water didn’t go everywhere). Also we arrived much earlier than I had predicted and the toilet was still very dirty. I should imagine that this is all because we were on a Sun Holiday. To make up for it the accommodation also boasted a gas barbecue, air con and free WiFi. There is plenty of seating indoors and out, a great airing rack and plenty of shade for you to sit under.

We visited Mad Monkey Montpellier, an indoor climbing zone, during our stay, plus we visited Béziers, the region’s capital. Other places to visit include:

• Canal du Midi (A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Canal runs through Portiragnes, connecting the town to the beach, from where you can stroll in either direction. Or hire a boat!)

• Ranch Les Gaillardels (horse riding)
