She then bravely led a school assembly with the film\u2019s first ever screening. Coinciding with World Autism Awareness Week it is hoped that people will become more aware of the needs of people with Autism and adapt their behaviour accordingly<em>. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>In fact, based on a 2017 Censuswide online poll of 2,321 adults:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>56% of respondents think someone who doesn&#8217;t reply immediately to a question in person isn&#8217;t paying attention,\n<ul>\n<li>and 24% think they&#8217;re rude<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Almost 80% (78%) say they would change their behaviour if they knew autistic people needed extra time to process information\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>48% say they\u2019d wait for someone to answer and 42% said they\u2019d repeat the question, if someone didn\u2019t reply immediately to them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xHHwZJX67-M?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><br \/>\nSmall changes can make a big difference: For example Holly is allowed to leave her classroom 5 minutes early because the noisy and busyness is too overwhelming for her otherwise. Other problems and solutions at school can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/thesensoryseeker.com\/2013\/09\/08\/help-at-school\/\">here<\/a>. Those who have Autism may also have <a href=\"http:\/\/thesensoryseeker.com\/\">Sensory Integration problems<\/a> and struggle to filter out the sounds, smells, sights and information in their environment. This can affect their whole lives including issues such as <a href=\"http:\/\/thesensoryseeker.com\/2014\/05\/31\/sleep-tips-sensory-processing-disorder\/\">sleeping<\/a>, brushing their <a href=\"http:\/\/thesensoryseeker.com\/2015\/01\/06\/brushing-teeth-sensory-processing-disorder\/\">teeth<\/a>, having their hair and nails cut, and this is just the beginning of a day. It can be exhausting for them and is sometimes referred to as running out of spoons.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-23292\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pinkoddy.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/autsm-crowd.jpg?resize=800%2C342\" alt=\"Autism Too Much Information Campaign\" width=\"800\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pinkoddy.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/autsm-crowd.jpg?w=800&amp;ssl=1 800w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pinkoddy.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/autsm-crowd.jpg?resize=300%2C128&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/pinkoddy.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/autsm-crowd.jpg?resize=768%2C328&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><u>According to a 2017 survey of 1,610 autistic people and their families in the UK: <\/u><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>77% think the public don\u2019t understand their need for more time to process information.<\/li>\n<li>82% said this makes them feel anxious; 48.5% said it can lead to a meltdown or shutdown.<\/li>\n<li>In the last year, due to worries about not being given enough processing time:\n<ul>\n<li>5% said they\u2019d chosen not to socialise<\/li>\n<li>39% said they\u2019d avoided going shopping<\/li>\n<li>35% said they\u2019d chosen not to go to a caf\u00e9 or restaurant<\/li>\n<li>28% said they\u2019d chosen not to visit their GP or apply for a job<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The top three things that could help when someone needs extra processing time are:\n<ul>\n<li>more time to respond (79%)<\/li>\n<li>a quiet, calm setting (74%)<\/li>\n<li>Information in advance (71%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than 1 in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, including an estimated 700,000 people in the UK.
