Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We made a decision that on Saturdays we would make it the time for a really special family breakfast – ensuring a good start to the day both in terms of being well fed and for time together. We often find things can be busy, rushing around with days out, places to review, parties, trips with out-of-school-clubs, tidying, fixing the car – and so on – so feel it is really important to have this time. When we heard that Table Table had an offer for free* children’s breakfasts we thought it made sense to take advantage of not having to cook and wash up as this is such great value!
Table Table at The Oakwood, Gloucester
Our local Gloucestershire based Table Table is The Oakwood on the Tewkesbury Road, Gloucester GL2 9PG. It is situated near a Premier Inn with close links to the M5 and M50 (especially useful if travelling). It offers free parking, an outdoor eating area, a garden, function room and WiFi.
We visited Table Table at The Oakwood, Twigworth, Gloucester on Saturday 16th January 2016 in the morning for breakfast. There were 2 adults and 4 children and we had not booked a table, they did not know we were coming so were unaware of the review prior to us arriving (I did tell them when I arrived). The waitress was very pleasant and polite, asked if we had been before and explained how we could help ourselves to the continental breakfast and drinks, and where everything was. She explained how cooked breakfast was made to order. Then she selected us a nice table by the window and checked that this was okay with us. There was a good selection of hot and cold food and drinks including some new options.
Continental Breakfast: Daily Baked Croissants, Pain au Chocolat (new), Pain aux Raisins (new); Cinnamon & Raisin Bagel (new); Flapjake Tray Bake (new); Blueberry Mini Muffins; Sourdough crumpets (new); Thickly sliced bread (white, malted or gluten free); American Style buttermilk pancakes; Preserves, Spreads & Jams (new) (Peanut butter, Nutella, Maple flavoured syrup, Marmite, Marmalade, Honey, Jams); Fruits (fruit salad, Apples & bananas (new), grapefruit segments, Luxury dried fruit mix); yoghurts & cereals (Yeo Valley Organic Yogurts, Yeo Valley seasonal compote (new), Yeo Valley Greek style yogurt (new), Kellogg’s cereals, Porridge, oats, weatabix, museli and granola).
Unlimited Drinks: Costa Coffee, Twinings Tea (variety of flavours), Fruit juices, Smoothie (new) and iced water.
The table had plenty of cutlery and we each had a napkin. The waitress allowed us time to settle the children, who had found the muffins, flapjacks, pancakes and the like as well as drinks. Each of our places had plenty of room to eat at them (well until the kids had brought back like a million plates and bowls). The waitress then came and took our cooked breakfast orders. She also explained to us that children ate free with adult meals, and that we could have as much as we liked. She said it was easier if she ran through what we could have in the way of a cooked breakfast and we let her know quantities. Nothing was a problem and it was all cooked fresh for each of us. It all tasted really nice, and as it had just been cooked it was nice and warm. My husband is particularly fussy and will cut off anything he does not want to eat – so the fact that he cleared his plate is a great sign that it was a good meal.
Full Breakfast: Back Bacon Rashers, Premium British Sausage, Quorn Sausage, Eggs (scrambled, poached, boiled, omelette), Hash browns, Bubble & Squeak (new), Black Pudding (New), Closed Cup Mushrooms, Halved Grilled Tomatoes, Baked Beans.
What I thought of Table Table at The Oakwood
The Oakwood is easy to find in a nice location. It has great décor and atmosphere. I was particularly impressed with the service at The Oakwood, which to me, can sometimes be even more important than the food (as if that isn’t nice and you have good service they can try to do something about it). Fortunately there was also good food to go with the service. I liked that new things could be tried without worrying too much, and that the waitress did not bat an eyelid even when The Sensory Seeker just ordered a halved tomato and black pudding (and ate neither of them!). The strawberry & blackberry smoothie was delicious and I really recommend you go and try it!

Emma also happened to be there and you can read her review over on Emmaand3.

I received all meals free as I had a voucher to cover the cost of the 2 adult meals – the 4 children were free with those meals. All opinions are honest and my own.
