Lakefest Festival 2018: Eastnor Castle

Lakefest started at Croft Farm Tewkesbury as a music and cider festival before moving to Eastnor Castle. A family and dog friendly festival – which also offers camping. Many people I know have been time and time again and so we were pleased to be invited along to see what it was all about. Unfortunately we only had time to visit on the Sunday and arrived just before 3pm and got to see and heard Mel C, Top Loader and The Proclaimers.

What I loved about Lakefest 2018 at Eastnor Castle

Of course the great thing about Lakefest is that it started from our town of Tewkesbury and hasn’t moved very far from home now. This meant it was easy to travel to and from and made it more likely that we would see someone we knew (we did see someone but somehow not anyone from Tewkesbury).

We do not have a dog but I loved just how friendly Lakefest is for them: Even going as far as providing a dog crèche! All dogs were well-behaved and well looked after so I think if our youngest had of came with us then he would have been fine too.

The cider. Let’s be honest not everyone/everywhere caters for us cider drinkers so I was super happy that local brand Stowford Press Cider was on sale at the bar. Plus the fact that we got to buy reusable Lakefest branded cups! Of course the bar also had a range of other drinks available – including jager! Of course what you need with a drink is delicious food – and they had plenty of options. My husband went with the Pie and Mash people as we had previously loved their food. I opted for Noodle City: Chinese and Thai food – as I am liking trying out vegetarian options at festivals. I had a vegetarian curry with noodles which was lovely – if not a bit too spicy for me.

Obviously the music – it is great that such a new festival can pull in such great acts. I liked how there were big screens outdoors so that everyone could see and hear them clearly – with no signs of people pushing. In fact the main stage had the bar running all alongside it too.

Talking of how everyone was behaving, I was glad to see that the security was good – checking all bags and ensuring we had wristbands on even late into the festival. What I also really loved about the music is that the main acts were all finished by around 8:30pm which meant adults could see them without worrying about tired children wanting to go to bed. There was other music later into the night if they wanted to stay up though. We were hoping to catch some comedy after the main acts but unfortunately this had finished – some definitely something to fit in next time.

What other people have to say about Lakefest 2018

The other people I spoke to had been having a brilliant time. Some said that for a Sunday afternoon Lakefest was busier than ever – and that everyone was really loving The Proclaimers. Parents who I spoke to said that there was plenty for the children to do – free as well as the paid for activities. This included circus skills, face painting, tie dying, yoga, pilates, zumba, crafts (run by Spare Room Arts), story time, face painting and soft play; as well as DJ lessons and Kids Rave! Of course then there was also the fairground rides!

Conclusions on Lakefest 2018

Lakefest is a lovely family and dog friendly festival with some really great acts. With lots of quirky pieces around to give it that festival feel, with plenty of wonderful places to eat and of course great bars (which incidentally are very efficient; we were served very quickly each time we went up). With plenty for families to do and reasonable prices for a festival. A great location and good security. I am sure many people are counting down the days until next year.
