Mr Blobby does Sport Relief

Mr Blobby Sport Relief

Just an ordinary day in Tewkesbury as Mr Blobby takes the children to school!

Actually it was a mini practise (school) run, which also aimed to raise awareness of Sport Relief. It was my turn to take part in the  Team Honk Relay. Dressed in a  Mr Blobby costume I was to take the Baton from Sarah in Gotherington to Tewkesbury. Little did I know that the visibility in the Mr Blobby costume was really limited, or that my route would include roads with no or very little path and national speed limit for the drivers! The Mr Blobby costume also blew up using a fan, meaning that it was quite suffocating when down, and easily caught in the strong winds (my husband held me down at some points). The costume I guess was made for someone taller than me and so pulled around my feet because I had to hold it down to look through the mouth. I think this is why I ended up with the most agonising back pain, that and trying to walk the distance in wellies, as we had had a lot of flooding.

I’d like to thank my husband at this point for taking the day off work, and helping me along all my routes – despite the fact that he was really worried about my safety (and not feeling at all well). He was meant to walk with me, but our youngest son was really unwell and not at school. Therefore, they stayed in the car behind me, warning drivers that there was a bit of a hazard in the road.

Next came another problem in that the road we were meant to go down had flooded and closed. This made it difficult to find the meeting place, made me even more clueless to the route, and it slightly longer.

However, we did meet up with Sarah, collect the baton and even ended up in the local newspaper.

The support from my husband made me feel special. What also WAS a special feeling was knowing that despite the rain, and the wind, the lack of paths; that my back was in agony, that I was sweating and felt like I was going to pass out – I DID it! What kept me going is the thought of helping people in need, and the immense support from those around me. People stopping to take my photo, tweets, plenty of honks from cars and lorries, waves, high fives, and even those other people getting fit telling me that I was mad! The most important things for me is seeing how proud of me my children were, and what a great message I felt that I was sending to them too.

It was a surprisingly sunny day – I recommend anyone who is serious about fitness to get one of these omg did I have a workout!

Why did Mr Blobby cross the road?
To deliver the TeamHonkRelay Baton of course!

After my journey home the Baton had a rest – including the daytime of Valentine’s.

After seeing photos and comments about Mr Blobby all over social media we took to the streets once more. This time to Beavers for some Relay Races. We even did a special house call on the way.

Finally my whole family got up at 6am to walk to town to arrive for 8am to hand over the baton to Stressymummy.

The Teen was not impressed and quickly got well away from the rest of us.

It was very dark and very windy.

And I had to hurry up at the end so we were not late.

All made worthwhile by a loving hug from my proud son.

Finally the baton was no longer with Team Gloucestershire

and that was the end of the adventures with Mr Blobby

I do hope you have all enjoyed Julie, Sarah and my journey through Gloucestershire, and that you will dig into your pockets and sponsor me please. It need only be £1. The money raised helps those at home and abroad (with fresh water and life-saving vaccines).

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has sponsored us.
