Pinkoddy at Coombe Mill

The true beauty of Coombe Mill really cannot be encapsulated online. No matter how many talented photographers share their snaps there is nothing that can prepare you for the magic. We were very lucky to visit for the morning and I could really see us staying there with the boys not wanting to leave. So tranquil but enough to do not to be bored.

We arrived just before the feed run. Not sure whether I was in the right place I asked one of the friendly mothers who was in the soft indoor play area. She told me that spot on time Farmer Nick would bring his tractor up to the car park, that I would be unable to miss the excited children. It didn’t take long to discover why, with Farmer Nick and Fiona making the holiday special for all the children.

As my boys climbed aboard the tractor-trailer they were offered their Coombe Mill hats. Hats that have been treasured and worn ever since. One delighted little girl got to sit up front and drive the tractor – how exciting!

The whole time around the animal run Farmer Nick talked to the children, asking them to make decisions (did you want to feed the pigs first?) and explaining things to them (such as why the animals needed something spraying on them). It was an educational experience for myself too. The children were really allowed to get stuck in and be on hands on. My boys loved it and could often be seen right up the front.

This was especially great for my youngest as he has sensory processing disorder and likes to touch things. He got to catch chickens, look for eggs, rub suntan lotion into the pigs – and much much more.

It was a great opportunity for us all to really get up close to the animals. Farmer Nick is very patient – even when my boys ran the wrong way resulting in the deer going the wrong way and scattering.

30 acres of gorgeous well–kept land, I could see my 11 year your old having a lot of fun there. There were lots of signs of children having lots of outdoor fun with ropes to swing across water. There’s plenty of really interesting trees, water for fishing, and gorgeous signs of life. Even the stinging nettles for butterflies looked fantastic.

As well as nature’s playground there are plenty of play areas, indoor and out, a games room with everything you could need (boots, coats, games, books, sports equipment).I loved the Enchanted Fairy Forest, and the boys loved the real tractor to play on. With lovely little touches to look out for – such as the sword in the stone.
