You may remember that we visited Leicestershire with the Stay, Play, Explore Package – when we visited the National Space Centre. Well you can also visit Conkers where we had previously gone, Stonehurst Family Farm, Twycross Zoo (where we plan to visit before the end of the year) and Twinlakes Theme Park – the place we went to after we stayed overnight.
Twinlakes Theme Park
As Merlin Annual Pass Holders you will realise that my family are big fans of theme parks and so visiting Twinlakes seemed an obvious choice. They also love the water and I had heard that they had a good water play area for them to take their costumes too. It is a small family run park and was just perfect for my family when we went during the summer holidays. For those local to me in Gloucestershire I would compare it to Cattle Country – with the addition of a better outdoor play facility and rides. My only gripe is that not everywhere took card – so do remember to take cash with you.
There is a great mix of indoor and outdoor play areas – with drop slides, places to climb, hide and pretend play – all set out in easy to find sections. My particular favourite area was Prairie Pete’s City which had loads of buildings, with just so much detail, for the children to play in, and run in and out. There are animals and bugs to see – including a schedule of activities on the way in. Plus Twinlakes boasts the largest beach in the Midlands. There was a shop which was very reasonably priced – including selling affordable swimwear if you did not realise you may need it. Plenty of places to sit and eat (indoors and out), and food for sale on site (including very delicious ice-cream).
The Rides at Twinlakes Theme Park
The queues for the rides were really short (and it was a beautiful sunny day). This was just perfect as our son struggles to queue up and we often obtain a ride access pass – it made a really nice change to just queue like everyone else. We feel this is really important as our son with sensory processing really needs to learn about queuing and we do wherever possible – but it also meant that all the boys could go on what they really wanted to. In fact the only really long queue was for the boats. The rides weren’t anything spectacularly modern – but good old fashioned fun: The Dragon Falls Log Flume, The Caterpillar, The Buffalo, Swinging Chairs, etc.
The Water Play Area at Twinlakes Theme Parks
The children loved the water area and it was great as there were plenty of chairs and sun loungers for parents to relax whilst the children played. It was well supervised and I was confident in my children’s safety. However, we were told that our young two children (then 7 and 6) needed to be supervised at all times when they went down the water slides. Mats were provided and the queues were not too long. There is also a big bucket of water that fills up and spills over – which the children really liked.
We really enjoyed our time at Twinlakes Theme Park and actually ran out of time. We would certainly visit again.
