The Prithvi is a 5 star dining room offering contemporary Indian cuisine and a first class service. Set in the heart of Cheltenham, along the Bath Road, concealed behind a very modest front – a great location with a car park immediately opposite. The Prithvi pride themselves on sourcing ingredients inspired by the season and therefore have just launched their autumn menu. I was delighted to be invited along with a friend to see what we thought.
Deserving of a Michelin Star The Prithvi it is no wonder that it is rated as the best curry house in the UK on Tripadvisor. The only reason to be disappointed by visiting The Prithvi is if you have come looking for a korma or a vindaloo. The setting is clean and white, with subtle modern décor and an intimate feel without being cramped. There was even a little table to place our handbags! With ironed white cloths and attentive waiters. This fine dining experience meant that we were looked after continuously but without being overbearing: Our glasses never empty, clean cutlery for every course and everything passionately explained.
Prithvi Tour Autumn 2017
We were treated to the Prithvi Tour which consisted of 3 mains and a desert. The food tasted exquisite and got us to try things we would not have deliberated before (such as the many flowers utilised in the dishes). All served by the waiters wearing white gloves the bite-size portions were of superb quality both in presentation and in taste. The subtle Indian tastes really took me on a sensory experience in my mouth! Whilst it is fair to say that all the dishes were absolutely amazing, my favourite has to be the Venison – which I am pretty sure I have never tried before.
