We went to Peter Pan parkrun for Wendy Day as our first trip with Airey Airways. Basically the idea was that we were to see how many people named Wendy we could all get in one place. Obviously with the link to the name of the parkrun with the name Wendy created by Scottish author J.M. Barrie in his story Peter Pan.

Facilities at Peter Pan parkrun
- Parking
- Also accessible on foot, bicycle, bus and train
- Toilets
- Café (great prices)
- We also headed into town for a Wendys – plenty of other options were available.
Peter Pan parkrun Course
- One small loop on footpaths, followed by 3 bigger loops on a mixture of paths and field.
- You do pass the finish area on these loops – I like to be able to visualise where I am finishing before I get there!
- Clockwise direction.
- Overtaking on the right.
This is a nice one for seeing people coming back towards you who are ahead of you.
My Experience of Peter Pan parkrun
Andy found a space right next to the parkrun for us. Then there was a little time to soak in the park before the start of parkrun. There are so many lovely nods to the Peter Pan story, which made it even more special place to visit. Even those working in the café embraced the dressing up!
Atmosphere
There was a lovely atmosphere as so many of us had dressed up. One of the locals asked me if it was okay to take our picture. He told me that when he started parkrun he had (wrongly) assumed that it was all fast men. That he wanted to show others just how much of a fun thing it can be!
Seeing People
There were lots of people we had met along the way. Obviously Wendys (like the one I was with in Lithuania), but also as part of the mini bus party entourage was Jo, who had dressed as Tinkerbell and was celebrating her birthday.
Additionally my friend from blogging (see Kids Days out Reviews) also came to see me, despite not feeling well. Plus she even brought her daughter to run! Pretty sure last time we saw each other we went to see the Peter Pan statue in London. It was very good to see her.
My Run – Well Jeff at Peter Pan parkrun
Seeing as it was a hot one AND I was in costume I decided to Jeff. Using a ratio of 2 minutes running and 30 seconds walk. It was late starting so my watch had closed my Jeffing app and then it just kind of started so my watch was a few seconds behind.
There was a lovely community feel with everyone encouraging each other. Plus there were a lot of young people. Obviously I cheered on other participants, and one of the parents thanked me at the end.
Getting too Hot
So there are baskets on the fence for people to leave their belongings on. Either to take off on the way around, or to leave and pick up their water. There was even a clothes rail and hangers to properly hang your clothes too! Personally I completely missed this but a very nice lady offered to take my Hook jacket and put it in her pushchair for our final lap. Fair play she was flying especially seeing as she also had to push a small person around too!
Finishing
A man who had obviously been helping to pace a young lady around started speeding off quite far from the end (probably 400m). However, I did manage to sprint finish and nip in front of him. Finishing in a time of 29:20.
We had a nice milkshake to cool down with.
Stats for Wendy Day at Peter Pan parkrun
Peter Pan parkrun had a total of 21 Wendys on July 4th 2026. 20 participating and one volunteer. This has been submitted to the Guinness World Records!
370 finishers (172 male, 195 female and 3 unknown).
Finish Times
These ranged between 18:52-1:09:42.
Our first female was actually only on her second ever parkrun and achieved a PB of 21:19. This was an age grading of 69.43% – well done to her. Second female finisher was actually our first junior female finisher, and only 6 seconds behind the first male junior finisher (both 11-14).
How Quickly Participants Finished at Peter Pan parkrun
- First finisher was the only sub 19.
- Lee, who I follow on Instagram, was the 7th finisher and the last of the impressive sub 20s. It was another hot one!
- 51 participants crossed in 25 minutes or less. Although the young lady (JW11-14) who was just 4 seconds over achieved a new PB.
- Despite the costume and Jeffing, I was one of the 162 participants to finish within the half an hour.
- 295 sub 40.
- 338 sub 50.
- 362 within the hour.
Wendy Finishings
Wendys finished between 27:14 and 1:01:34.
With 2 sub 30 Wendys!
Age Grading
Highest age grading was 79.78% (VM70-74 in 23 mins). Actually the same as his PB time which meant it was a new highest age grading!
The highest female age grading was 73.61% (VW75-79% – time of 33:32).
Volunteers
Thank you to David Gawons the official photographer.
It was the first time that Peter Pan parkrun had some sign the briefings. Obviously Wendy did this!
Conclusion
Our Peter Pan parkrun dressing up/Wendy Day was such a success that they are thinking of making it an annual event around the 9th May (J.M. Barrie birthday).
Thank you to Andy Airey for a very successful trip. Also everyone on the trip (and those who joined us) for making it such a special event.
I haven’t done any of the other nearby parkruns.
