With less than 2 weeks to go I have to question whether I am going to be fit enough to do this Half Marathon after all!
This week has been hard – and not because of any exercise but because of a complete lack of it! My foot (and sometimes up my leg) is hurting with just walking. In fact the only thing I really did was encourage my son to keep going at Parkrun where I just walked with him for a lap (out of 4) and I was in SUCH pain afterwards. In fact that two of the ladies from running club told me not to run this Saturday (we have our first family 5k in the Chocolate run) and probably not to do the half marathon. The first I could just about manage not to do – in the hope that I really just need rest and it will be all better. But to not do my half marathon now – feels really awful. Like I thought I could achieve it and I just can’t. I would feel such a failure. Even though I know for the long-term it would be for the best and I still have plenty of time.
This is assuming I haven’t caused any permanent damage (which I doubt I have) and my husband thinks I should book in the doctors to get it checked out and proper advice. I have been taking Ibuprofen, rolling my foot over a bottle of frozen water and gently rubbing the bottom of my foot. I have been doing a bit of walking but taking the car when I can – and I found my Microscooter helps as it places less pressure on my foot than walking. I have been doing stretches against the wall and on the stairs – fingers crossed it is all helping.
It is a new month now so I need to get my mind back to where it should be – and that is starting with the diet! I have gotten really bad in a spiral of sugar, sugar and more sugar and I really need to cut back on the chocolate, cake and doughnuts again and start with more fruit and vegetables. Two weeks yesterday until the Half Marathon – gulp. And at least I know where and how many water stations there are.
Oh and I have just entered the ballot for the London Marathon 2018!
I received a pair of Asics Gel-DS Trainer 22 Women’s Running Shoes for purposes of review. All words and opinions are honest and my own.
