Our 8 year old is doing really well academically. He is good at Maths and English so I was keen to find out what he thought of the new activity book Professor Murphy Metal Puzzle Set from Parragon. When you open the box you are faced with 6 metal puzzles to solve with a 16-page book of brain teasers and riddles.
The 6 metal puzzles are a mix of shapes (mainly circular and triangles) with pieces of metal attached together and you need to figure out how to make them individual pieces. There’s the Looper, Trigon, Sun and Moon, Big Bang, Helix and Double 8. The solutions are then explained inside the book for those who could not solve them. I do think a clearer introduction to the puzzles would be better, as the book starts as if the reader has automatically solved the puzzles first.
Our son found them easier to do once he figured that he didn’t have to be too gentle with them. The puzzles were great for helping him to think more deeply, and is in line with what he is work on with problem-solving at school as part of the new curriculum. The problems were well explained and illustrated – with answers at the back. Each of the puzzles has a slot in the packaging, and with the book is compact.
