Disney Star Wars Egmont Publishing Books

Egmont Publishing have got some great #StarWarsXmasBooks that cover a range of ages and abilities. With excitement building for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this month I thought you would appreciate a review and giveaway of some of the great books they have to offer. I received two Young Readers Star Wars books (level 1 and level 2), Star Wars Treasury – The Original Trilogy, and Star Wars Starfighter Workshop.

Young Readers Star Wars Books

The Young Readers books are graded by band colours: level 1 are simple stories for new and developing readers; level 2 are engaging stories for readers growing in confidence and independence; and level 3 are longer, more challenging stories for newly fluent readers. The Star Wars level 1 book – Escape from Darth Vader, was beautifully illustrated and a great introduction to Star Wars for new fans, or filled with familiar characters for established fans. I liked how each page had just a small amount to read and an illustration – helping the reader to build confidence. The level 2 Star Wars book, Use the Force! Had more words on each page – and a lot with two sentences. Our 6 year old has a global developmental delay and he enjoyed these books. I found them easy for him to get into and short enough to hold his interest.

Star Wars Starfighter Workshop

The Star Wars Starfighter Workshop is a hardback split into two parts: A Story and Puzzle Book on one side; and a make your own X-Wing and Tie Fighter on the other. This book is suitable for slightly older readers (recommended ages 7+) with problems to solve and fact files of the characters. Beautifully illustrated with great detail in cartoon format. This book is great for developing skills – such as drawing, observation and following instructions. Building the X-Wing and Tie Fighter has detailed instructions (which must be read it can’t be made just by looking at the pictures) and the parts are well labelled and ready to just fold – there are no stickers to add, or glue/sellotape required making this an easy to assemble project with no mess. When built they measure 8x31cms and 22.5x21cms. Please note that all the parts need pressing out first and it is not built in order of pages – this is probably to save on wastage material.

Star Wars Treasury – The Original Trilogy

The Star Wars Treasury – The Original Trilogy is a hardback of over 200 pages, “following the adventures of Luke Skywalker from the deserts of Tatooine to the ice plains of Hoth and beyond, as he battles to liberate the galaxy from the evil Emperor Palpatine.” Beautifully illustrated artwork with a mix of photos, pictures from the screenplays and illustrations. Divided into three easy distinguishable parts – Episode IV: A New Hope; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; and Episode VI: Return of The Jedi. This book is suitable for more able readers – but will also be enjoyed by younger children if it is read to them due to the imagery and easy to understand content. I do, however, find that they may not understand all the words.
