Hastings High School parkrun – With Beautiful Bacon Baps

We headed to the East Midlands for Hastings High School parkrun for their 152nd event. This helped fill a gap in my Floating Wilson. See parkrun Stats and Challenges. This was slightly further away than usual at around 70 minutes. This is because our son, who has to be back for work, wasn’t running. He completed his 5th half marathon in under a year on the Sunday.

Hastings High School parkrun Facilities

Set in a school with free parking, access to toilets and the Flavour trailer! Here all money raised is used to support school activities. What a great reason for stopping for a bacon sandwich! Everything was really well priced too. Unfortunately, it looks like they are not always available! Luckily they were when we attended!

At the start we left our bag in the maths room. This is not far from the start/end and would have meant it was kept dry if it had of rained.

Also note that, because it is in a school, there’s a bike rack too.

Hi Vis Heroes

Thank you to the 29 Hi Vis Heroes – everyone was super friendly and helpful. Including the girls who showed us the way to the toilets.

Run Briefing

The run briefing I thought we were going to say, “Good morning Mr Run Director, Good morning everyone!” He tells me that he will this week!

We also had a moment of silence to reflect for Stephen-Webb, co-head of English at the school. His loss has been felt by the local running club, as well as the school.

Hastings High School parkrun Course

Obviously the Hastings High School parkrun course is in the school grounds. They’ve finally got back near their course after 18 months. This means that even regulars really needed to listen to the instructions. That the map wasn’t quite right.

Note it is a no dogs course.

Going Wrong

Luckily I could follow the person in front, and thankfully she wasn’t alone because when she overtook someone a little bit and went the wrong way it was easily rectified.

The Laps

Basically it starts out straightforward and then we take a right. Going all around the school field. This includes the long jump, “the swamp” which is path and then a hill!

Once this lap is complete you do it again but on lap 2 you add in going around the school.  That’s the bit where it gets a little complicated! As you come out of that bit you come on to your third lap – which is a repeat of lap 2! Then do it again one last time for lap 4 but instead of turning left you carry on straightforward to a white barrier that takes you around – then head back in the same way as the laps where you’ll clearly see a sign indicating the way of the finish and the finish itself.

Hastings High School parkrun Community Experience

It was lovely to meet my shoe twin Tracey Norris (whose local parkrun is not far from us). Then at the end I invited Fiona Hutchinson to join us to eat her bacon sandwich.

The course was interesting – especially going past the long jump.
