Daventry parkrun – On An Old Railway Line

It was a real last minute decision to attend Daventry parkrun. In fact it wasn’t until 6:30am Saturday morning a decision was made at all. However, it meant that our youngest would finish off his alphabet challenge!

Parking

Okay so we didn’t find the parking easy. It says Lodge Road parking which it turns out IS the leisure centre. These seemed full by 8:30am – but we think we just misunderstood.

Also the Satnav really struggled with finding the Eastern Way car park. We did end up at one you paid for but my husband didn’t think that we were in the right place.

Luckily we did manage to park but I only just caught the tail end of the first timers briefing.

Toilets

One of the reasons that we headed to Daventry parkrun was because there were toilets. These are in the leisure centre and I had to ask the lady on the desk about them. She kindly explained where they were and buzzed me through the gate.

Daventry parkrun Course

Just one full lap. Mostly on tarmac path but this wasn’t for clean trainer running shoes during the winter. This was the old railway line.

Daventry parkrun course

Daventry parkrun was a bit of a good introduction for Cross Country. A varied experience with running on path between trees. Followed by a beautiful view of the water as we went by on a path. Ending with a very up and down (slippery due to the rain) grassy area.

My Experience at Daventry parkrun

From the briefing there’s a little walk to the start. It was quite busy and hard to really self-seed properly.  We were too far at the back of the walk to get further to the front.

Loved how varied the course was (but not as much as Dudley parkrun). There were some beautiful views. Plus with my cross country race coming up the finish on the field was good preparation! Also it really made me consider taking a towel with me to my race the following day.

People were really friendly and I was encouraged a lot when I walked. This time I walked because I still wasn’t well, as opposed to making the decision to use Jeffing.

  1. I do like a single lap parkrun! There doesn’t seem to be many of them around. It’s always stressful when the parking instructions aren’t very clear. Well done to your youngest on completing his alphabet.
Thanks very much for the mention.
