This post is about the Third Week of Jeffing Half Marathon Training. I had devised a Jeffing Half Marathon Plan for myself and my teen. For me the aim was to get sub 2 hours, and the teen was to complete his first one.
With the first two weeks of half marathon training under our belts we moved to week 3. Already the training plan had needed adapting but we were confident that we had still juggled everything in.
Moving the Walk Day
Knowing we would be walking a lot on the Sunday at Bewilderwood Cheshire, we considered that our walking day. Therefore we were able to do what we were meant to do on the Saturday on the Monday (walk day) instead.
This was 1 x 800m. However, my Garmin would only set it up as 2 x 800m. Well that I could figure out how to do. The three of us went out again – myself and the two teens. We staggered ourselves where I knew roughly the distance was. Oldest teen went first, then the other one and myself last.
The first 800ms
The older teen is really fast and he knew he only had 800m to do. We had warmed up to get there too. He flew off, his brother setting off not long after. We had decided to just run this. No jeffing. With just a 30 second rest break between the two.
Did I mention that I cannot pace myself? Going far too fast I managed to overtake the younger teen. But also did I say how fast the older one is? There was no chance and I thought I was going to die! Achieving Personal records for both my ½ mile time and 400m.
The teen says he didn’t hear his watch for the second one and so just walked. My second wasn’t as fast and I am not sure how I made it at all. The younger of the teens had already had an 800m race at school that day – but managed both his 800m.
Strength Training YouTube
This week for strength training the teen found a video on YouTube for runners. It was relatively hard and I was achy afterwards. There were clear timers – but they hadn’t recorded the cool down very well.
River Swimming
We moved cross-training because others wanted to swim on Wednesday. Both the teens came and we swam until my arms ached. Everyone else seemed much better at it than me. Strength training had worked on the arms a lot so not sure which it was that had made them so heavy.
Extra Run
On the Saturday I did a 9 mile run with the local Jeffing group. There was no long Sunday run this week as it was part of a rest day. I figured I was used to the extra miles so why not.
