Day Out with Thomas at Dean Forest Railway May Bank Holiday Weekend

Day Out with Thomas at Dean Forest Railway May Bank Holiday WeekendFans of Thomas the Tank Engine™ will be delighted to know that this Bank Holiday Weekend Thomas and Friends will be at the Dean Forest Railway. We have previously taken our boys who were huge fans and they loved the fact that they got to shake hands with The Fat Controller. The ticket price covers the whole day which includes brake van rides on Thomas and unlimited rides on real steam engines including the Big Engine (Wilbert the Forest Engine) & Daisy the Diesel. Plus there’s an on-train entertainer!

Doors open at 9:30am when Sir Topham Hatt (The Fat Controller) tries to wake Thomas up. If he behaves he will puff into the station at approximately 9:45am. Thomas’ first task is to find the coaches for the “big” train and pull them into the platform. Thomas will then pull Toad the brake van as well as perform re-enactments with other engines from Thomas & Friends.

There are Thomas themed activities in the Imagination Station with colouring pages, table-top toys and regular magic shows; there is a miniature railway, face painting, a roundabout, Punch & Judy Shows, competitions and `Day Out With Thomas’ Stickers and Certificate. Travel on Daisy the Diesel with a story telling trip into the forest from Norchard Station and all the way to Parkend and there’s a Musical children’s entertainer travelling on the steam train.

Day Out with Thomas at Dean Forest Railway May Bank Holiday WeekendYou can travel by train to Norchard on the big railway from Gloucester or Newport from the Lydney Junction station, which is close to the main line station. Trains call at Ledney Town and St. Mary’s Halt stations in each direction, so you can get out for a walk around the park, the lake or the town itself. Whilst visiting the Forest of Dean why not visit the Forestry Commission at Beechenhurst Lodge. Or why not see what Gloucester has to offer such as Gloucester Cathedral where which has been utilised for such films as Harry Potter, Doctor Who, The Hollow Crown, Wolf Hall and Sherlock. Or Gloucester Docks where Johnny Depp’s latest sequel to Alice in Wonderland was filmed. Or why not see one of the museums – such as the Jet Age, Gloucester Waterways, Gloucester Folk or Soldiers of Gloucestershire. In fact there’s so much to see and do it would make sense to stay over in Gloucester so that you do not have to miss anything.

  1. Ahhh I remember taking my 20 year old Thomas here when he was 3 – always was a lovely day out and looks like it’s still that way!
