How to Make McDonald’s Spicy Sriracha Crispy Chicken Wrap

Today’s recipe is the Spicy Sriracha Crispy Chicken Wrap at Home. This is obviously inspired by McDonald’s Limited edition The Spicy Sriracha Chicken One – Crispy. Wednesday’s Wrap of the day!

When looking for meal inspiration it doesn’t always have to be totally healthy. To be honest I think that’s where a lot of people may fall down on diets and give up. But by making your favourite fast food at home will actually make it healthier and feel like you’re getting a treat. Plus they can be much quicker to prepare.

Also if the whole family were to eat the Sriracha Crispy Chicken Wraps I would like to think that even on a Wednesday they would be cheaper. Especially if you made some chips out of potatoes and added a bottle of fizzy drink, or hot drinks to make them meals! We, however, just had ours with water.

Ingredients Spicy Sriracha Crispy Chicken Wrap

The McDonald’s version has: Crispy chicken breast, spicy sriracha sauce, cucumber, slivered onions, and lettuce in a soft, toasted tortilla wrap.

The beauty of having the Crispy Chicken Wrap at Home is that you can really play with the ingredients to make it how you like it. Personally I prepared the following items and left them on the table to each person to build their own:

  • 8 Plain TortillaWraps 89p
  • Chicken – here’s the thing you can use whatever chicken you like! Leftovers from a roast dinner! Chicken breast, chicken nuggets, chicken goujons, chicken breast fillet strips – and so on! We like the Iceland Southern Fried Chicken Breast Fillet Chunks (900g bag is £5.75). There are also hot and spicy and Barbeque varieties to give the wrap a different flavour!
chicken nuggets
  • Thai Dragon Sriracha Hot Chilli Sauce 455Ml (obviously just a little squirt in each wrap, you won’t use up the whole bottle!) £2.00
  • Cucumber (we used the whole cucumber but you do not have to) 69p
  • Beetroot Salad 160g £1.30. You could use any salad leaves just these are the ones we all prefer. A lettuce is 60p.
  • Onions 55p.
  • Tomatoes – 85p.
  • Mayonnaise – this is optional and the price varies greatly depending on what brand and size you opt for! Also whether you want the “light” or “free from” versions. From 75p.
  • Cheese – again this will vary but the cheapest cheddar I found was £1.99.
  • Bacon – my family prefer smoked because it has more flavour. £1.25.

Okay so the bacon and cheese wasn’t actually there but was suggested for next time!

Method of the Spicy Sriracha Crispy Chicken Wrap at Home

Do It Yourself

  • Cook your chicken (if it needs cooking). We use our Air fryer.
  • Prepare your salad – wash and slice
  • Grate your cheese
  • Place on plates/bowls for people to help themselves

Building the Wrap

  • Again people can decide which order they want things. Do you want to add the chicken or salad first? Perhaps the sauce first, or maybe last!
  • Maybe you want to fold the wrap and then stuff it!
  • The important thing to remember is to make sure you fold the end of the wrap up so there’s a pocket at the end and the food will not fall out. If unsure there’s probably visual aids on the wrap packaging.

Price Comparison with McDonald’s Wrap of the Day Meal

Now these prices haven’t factored in the potatoes and drink. If you add the ingredients used by McDonald’s this comes to £10.48 or £2.62 per person (based on four people). Which is more than the price of a wrap if you are going for the wrap of the day. BUT there’s enough for at least 8 wraps, PLUS plenty of leftover ingredients. However, if you are really short on money McDonald’s is cheaper!

The other thing to note with these prices is that it does not take into consideration any cooking costs. We did both the chicken and chips in the Air fryer which is cheaper – but they aren’t cheap to buy in the first place.
