Here is a simple visual guide on how to turn off the everyone notification in Facebook. Sorry this needs doing via the app. Let me know if there is a way to do it by desktop please. I thought it was the same but honestly I struggled to find it.
About the Everyone Notification
Facebook are great at coming up with new ideas to help everyone. The Everyone feature is great because Group Admins and Moderators can tag everyone all at once just by using it. This is really time saving and ensures that no-one is missed out when getting an important message out there. They can do this once per day.
Why Turn off the Everyone Notification in Facebook
However, this feature isn’t liked by “everyone.” A lot of us find ourselves in a lot of different Facebook Groups and often find that we are being tagged a lot more. Some things we may not find relevant to us for example. Other times we aren’t keen on how the Admins and Moderators are using the feature.
More often than not I am finding that it is being used just purely because visibility is reduced on Facebook and they want their group to be seen. Or perhaps you want a break from Facebook and don’t want to come back to lots of notifications.
Whatever your reason for wanting to turn off the everyone notification in Facebook here is a simple step by step guide for how to do it on the app.
How to Turn Off the Everyone Notification
Unfortunately you need to go into each group to do this. Which is good I guess because you may want to keep the everyone notification on in some groups but not others. This may change as Facebook is always adapting – so maybe in the future there will be a bulk option.
Step 1
When you go into your Facebook Group on the App you will see that there is a bit in the top left that says joined with a drop down arrow. This is different if you are an Admin or Moderator and again I am afraid I am not sure I know of a way to switch the feature off. Guess this is because if the other Admins or Moderators deem that it is a post for all then I guess it is seen as being important for you to see it.
So first click on this drop down arrow.
Step 2
This will then bring up another menu with some options. You want to click on where it says “manage notifications”
Step 3
This post is specifically about the everyone notification in posts so next you will want to click on the arrow for “Posts”. At this point it really is straightforward and clearly labelled on Facebook.
Finally Stage for Turning Off the Everyone Notifications
Finally you will see that there is a whole list of ways you can decide which notifications you want to receive for this group. Scroll to the bottom and you will find Batch mentions. This is what the everyone notification is! If you do not wish to receive them simply make sure it is set to off. They are set to on by default.
Ohh! This is so useful! I get so sick sometimes of all of the notifications. I left a group the other day which I liked because they were using the “everyone” feature too much. x
