Teksta Toucan Review

Teksta Toucan is bound to be on Christmas Lists this year – as this electronic animal is like no other. Sitting on its perch the hilarious Toucan acts just like a real bird: Teksta Toucan turns its head, ruffles its feathers, flaps its wings, squawks, and moves his beak as he talks whilst he rolls back and forth on his perch.Teksta Toucan Review

Features of the Teksta Robotic Toucan

  • Voice Recognition – He can listen to your voice and answer questions from his app – be prepared to be amazed with his jokes and impressions!
  • Lots to say – now you can always have someone to talk to as he has hundreds of things to say – he even has a pirate language! You can also select whether you want him to be in sweet or humor mode.
  • No Wifi Required – The Teksta Toucan works with Bluetooth at the flick of a switch on the side, and so no internet connection is required. Or you can use Low Power mode (LP) when batteries are inserted).
  • Room defender – he shouts all kinds of funny things when someone walks past him; great for hearing if someone has gone into your room! This can be detected up to 2 metres away!
  • Intelligent -he works with or without the FREE Teksta Toucan App (available from both GooglePlay and the AppStore) and will astound with his mind reading skills. You can also ask him questions by clicking on the app if you do not wish to use voice recognition.Teksta Toucan Review
  • Light Responsive – he sleeps when you sleep! Waking in the morning when it becomes light. Or you can get him to go to sleep (guess it’s in case you fancy a nap!)
  • Plays music – The Teksta Toucan plays music and dances along. There are 3 songs included or you can use your own music by connecting a smart device with Bluetooth.
  • Plays Games – Currently you are only able to play darts but this is good fun and hopefully more will be added in the future.

Thoughts on the Teksta Toucan

I first saw the Teksta Toucan in action back in January at the London Olympia Toy Fair and knew this was something that my boys would love this Christmas. I felt that the technology and interaction had really moved on from previous toys. I liked that there are two options of play allowing him to be used as a standalone toy with multiple pre-programed features which can be accessed as soon as the batteries are inserted – and this includes the room guard feature. This means children do not need to be left with a smart device to play. A very simple design for children to operate the blue and white bird has three buttons on the front – one either side of the clearly marked power button. The Toucan says a different phrase when the button to the left is pushed and sings one of the three songs when the button to the right is pressed.Teksta Toucan ReviewBut that with the app the Teksta Toucan’s full potential is released, including more comprehensive responses. Including being much more interactive. Do note that you need to switch the Toucan to Bluetooth mode (on the side of the base at the bottom of the Toucan) and enable the Bluetooth on your device to connect with the Toucan (instructions are included). The Teksta Toucan did not always react the way my son expected and I think it is important that you are the right range away from the bird. He found the toy and iPad combination easy to use and understand without help.
