#Review BeWILDerwood Cheshire Adventure Park: Insight from Perspective with Teens

BeWILDerwood Cheshire is a new multi-million pound adventure park, based on a book series, from the imagination of Tom Blofeld. The wonderful wonky world of the Boggles and Twiggles, and hints of his magical stories, are brought to life in 70 acres of natural woodland. Myself and my family were invited along for purposes of review.

About BeWILDerwood Cheshire

Following on the success of BeWILDerwood Norfolk, the much much-anticipated attraction opened on April 12th 2021, in line with the Government’s road map out of lock-down. Hence it is the perfect place to re-connect with nature after such a long time stuck at home.

It has super slides, magical treehouses, mazes in the sky, and extra-long and extra exciting zip lines. BeWILDerwood Cheshire allows for families to get back to nature, explore the enchanted woodland and has the freedom to run wild. Plus there is den building, crafts and story-telling too!!

The BeWILDerwood team have thought of everything – retaining the area’s natural beauty whilst creating buggy-friendly paths shadowed by trees and natural woodland. With everything included in the price, such as free parking and the additional crafts.

Toilets are at the entrance/exit to the park and near food venues. The map looks really big but it isn’t really. In the just under 4 hours we spent there I clocked up 3 miles of walking, and the boys 4.

Where to find BeWILDerwood Cheshire

Located next to the historic Cholmondeley Castle, BeWILDerwood Cheshire is based in the heart of Cheshire, in Bickley Moss, near Whitchurch. We found it really easy to find.

Who is BeWILDerwood Cheshire for?

Everyone can benefit from screen-free time outdoors and having fun. BeWILDerwood Cheshire really gives those of all ages a chance to do this with fun for all of the family. The adventure park has been designed to have areas for those Born to BeWILD (teeny tots) and encourages grown-ups to join in with the fun! Including those who are Still WILD (grandparents).

Although our boys (ages 12, 13 and 17) did have a lot of fun, I would say that the adventure park is really for those up to the ages of 12. If they have older siblings then they will have fun though so I wouldn’t rule it out. Just our boys have been on bigger zip lines and built a lot of dens!! Our 13 year old was also a bit disappointed that there wasn’t any tree climbing. They also enjoyed doing the activities using the pencils and sheets provided. They didn’t collect their rewards at the end however, as they were badges and therefore not very environmentally friendly.

Food at BeWILDerwood Cheshire

Food is available on site, with two catering outlets, serving wholesome yummy delights from renowned suppliers across Cheshire, including the much-loved Snugburys ice cream. The Munch Bar and Cosy Cabin are located on either side of the adventure park. Both are outside so no requirement to wear a mask, and more Covid-safe. They offer a range of hot and cold food and drinks, including some prepackaged items.

We had lunch early to avoid the queues but this still didn’t secure us a table. Consequently we just sat on the floor, therefore it may be worth just taking a picnic blanket with you.

The catering staff we found to be very accommodating of our needs. For instance I had a tuna mayonnaise jacket potato which usually comes with sweetcorn. They especially made me some up without the sweetcorn, and it was all done very quickly.

Keeping Covid-Safe at BeWILDerwood

Of course Covid-safety is something very much on our minds currently. As this is attraction is almost completely indoors it is one of the most Covid-safest days out you are likely to get. In fact there are only two occasions we needed to wear a mask – that was in the toilets (which have lots of reminders) and in the shop (which is optional).

Other ways they are keeping customers safe are:

  • Having limited number of visitors.
  • Staff wearing PPE, and using Perspex screens where applicable.
  • Hand sanitiser dispensers all around the park.
  • Increased deep and general cleans throughout the park.
  • Check that all staff are feeling fit, well and safe to work each day.
  • Pre-packaged foods in catering outlets.
  • Limiting numbers in the gift shop.
  • Ask people to wear face masks where required, unless medically exempt.
  • Ask people to socially distance.
  • Encourage card payments.
  • Ask visitors not to attend if unwell.

Some of the areas we did find very busy, and people not really socially distancing. Saying that a lot of the park is the same but different if that makes sense. So moving to a quieter area a lot of the time did not feel like missing out. There were quite big queues for the slides and zip lines and the boys were happy to just go on them once. Also some areas may have been better with clear signs making it one way – so people didn’t end up together trying to pass each other so much.

Verdict of Our Visit

We found BeWILDerwood Cheshire to be a great day out. It was nice to see our boys bonding together whilst getting outside. They never once asked to go home before we had finished exploring the whole park, which suggests that they really were having a great time too! I was pleased with the safety features put in place and the attitude of the staff.

I think it makes a great day out, but particularly for younger children and those who have read the Tom Blofeld books. It was definitely pleasing on the eye with great attention to detail and true to the books. The adventure park is easy to navigate and not too big – also perfect for those little legs.

The food was delicious – with a nice range of options, but not too many that children are taking too long to decide what they want!

Myself and my family had free entry, a meal and a drink each, and one goody bag in exchange for social media sharing. All words and opinions are honest and my own. No other financial incentive has been given.
