Ice-Skating as a family is a magical way to spend time this Christmas. Having taken 4 non-skating children, and an out of practice adult, with me previously I knew that this could end in tears. Luckily though we went to Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold, who really pulled out all the stops to make this a memorable occasion.

The Staff at Webbs of Wychbold

First of all I think customer service is a really important factor and I am pleased to say that the staff at Webbs of Wychbold could not be faulted. Both on and off the ice they were, friendly, alert, and attentive. I was really impressed with how quickly the staff on the ice came over to anyone who had fallen/was in distress. Everything and everyone was really organised at the 45 minutes on the ice just flew by. They were quick and efficient at dealing with my family (getting skates/giving back shoes/sorting out valuables etc). The staff are a real credit to the company and I would like to thank them for all their hard work.

The open-air ice-rink is made with real ice. Covered with a glass roof to make ice-skating practical no matter what the weather, without losing that outdoor feel. There are plenty of twinkling lights attached to the roof and the surrounding areas which really adds to the experience. I liked how the ice-skating rink was inclusive for everyone: There are skate aid frames and push alongs for the under 8s to hire (£4.50 each), and the ice-skating rink is accessible to wheelchair users.

As well as an amazing shop, there is a café (right next to the ice-skating rink so you can warm up straight away. You can pre-ordered hot chocolate and muffin for £3 each), children’s fair rides, Santa’s grotto, children’s riverside ramble, meet the reindeer and write a letter to Father Christmas.

Our Verdict of Webbs of Wychbold

Amazing we cannot wait to go again.  The ice-skating had a real family feel to it. At no point was I worried about someone knocking into my children, or not having enough room. Again I cannot praise the staff enough. Most definitely recommend a visit.

Best of all they gave us a 50% off our next tickets too! The special offer is available on skating sessions from Monday 24th November until Friday 19th December 11am-4pm – skate for just £3 per ticket! Book in-store or online at www.webbs.co.uk

Ice-Skating at Webbs of WychboldYou know sometimes I take my childhood for granted but more and more I am realising how lucky I have been. The first time was when I discovered that my husband had NEVER been canoeing. This time it is ice-skating. I used to go regularly, and as a teen I was allowed on my own to the disco nights. I even had my own second-hand pair of skates. If I am honest I spent most of my time off the ice, either trying to get into the bar or dancing on the benches! But my son looked at me with so much admiration and said, “Mom, how did you get so good at skating?” And it makes me determined to make sure they go more often.

It was also lovely to see Craig and Tammy (thank you for looking after my youngest and letting me pinch your daughter), and Laura.

We received a free ice-skating session, hot chocolates and muffins in return for an honest review.

  1. Oh this is such a lovely thing to do! We have a rink in Brighton around Christmas every year and I haven’t plucked up the courage to go before – you’ve convinced me it’s worth the effort and I hope you get to go again very soon :))

  2. I love ice rinks at Christmas, I have some self indulgent idea of a romantic skate in the twilight, however I am then reminded that I have two children and this *may* not be quite so romantic with a toddler!! Love the skating aids though!!

  4. I LOVE ice skating!!! Daughter is a huge fan and goes every week but we never go as a family anymore. Though I love it, I am rubbish at it and my arse spends too much time on the cold stuff.
