C is for Carrots

I thought I’d teach the boys about life by doing C for Carrots.

First I simply cut out some letter Cs and some strips of green paper. Got him to colour them in and stick them together.

Then on Pinterest I saw these seed planters made from toilet roll holders.

I decided that we could paint them orange, stick the green strips of paper on them and plant carrot seeds.

First I cut a toilet roll holder in two (and kitchen roll holders into 3)

I cut 4 slits into the holder.

Folded them over and taped them closed.

We painted them Orange.

We talked about the fact that if we didn’t have any orange paint then we could have mixed red and yellow together.

A washing up bowl is always handy to clean mucky hands before they touch anything else!

A trip to the shops to buy our seeds.

The dry pots put in an old scone tray.

Then we stuck on the carrot tops.

Then we added a bit of soil into each one

And patted it down.

We then gave each pot a little water.

We opened the seeds and poured them onto an old (clean) pate lid.

We then put a few seeds into each pot.

and pushed the soil on top of them.

Now we just have to wait for them to grow.

  1. Wow that is so creative! I love how you are teaching him, he will always remember these lessons.

I’m glad that you found my seed starting containers on pinterest and used them for inspiration. Now the paint may make the container a little hard for the plant roots (aka carrot) to break through, so may I suggest that you remove the tape and gently open up the bottom and plant them that way? Carrots have a long taproot (again, aka the carrot) which will jut and jeer in all sorts of directions if it hits anything as it tries to grow downwards so it’s best to leave it free of obstructions.

Anyhow, thanks for stopping by Garden Therapy and I’m glad to have found your blog.
