LEGO Dimensions Wave 3 Ghostbusters and Back to the Future
The real beauty of LEGO® Dimensions™ is its ability to just keep on growing. With new Level, Team & Fun Expansion Packs. My son had been waiting very (im)patiently for Ghostbusters™ and so was thrilled to get the opportunity to the review the level pack, as well as a Back to the Future™ Fun Pack. There were three other new Expansion Packs Based on the World’s Biggest Entertainment Brands: DC Comics, Doctor Who and LEGO Ninjago!
These expansion packs allows players to customise their building and adventure, provide additional gameplay, opportunities to build (characters) and rebuild (3-in-1 vehicles) and gadgets with special in-game abilities. The Expansion packs allow gamers to use everything interchangeably anywhere throughout the game, whilst the character can unlock the corresponding Adventure World – providing players with additional open-world gameplay content based on that entertainment property.
LEGO® Dimensions™ Ghostbusters™ Level Pack
Every LEGO® Dimensions™ Level Pack contains a minifigure, vehicle and gadget to build and use in the game – and a whole new mission based game level based on the theme, to go beyond the adventure in the Starter Pack. The Ghostbusters™ Level Pack contains the iconic character Peter Venkman minifigure, Ecto1 (that can also be rebuilt as Ecto-1 Blaster & Ecto-1 Water Diver) and a Ghost Trap (which rebuilds into the Ghost Stun ‘n Trap and Proton Zapper) to help complete A Spook Central Adventure! This is a mission based level where players must fight Gozer to save New York City. Plus this pack gives access to the Ghostbusters Adventure World (and you can play as 1 of the 4 Ghostbusters) and you can throughout the other levels you can trap ghosts and access more collectibles. There’s a train track covered in pink goo, and a road has been broken to cover it. But now the road has cracked and Peter Venkman is the only one who can walk through the pink goo without dying. This level also has the famous Ghostbusters™ theme track playing.
LEGO® Dimensions™ Back to the Future™ Doc Brown Fun Pack (71230)
LEGO® Dimensions™ Fun Packs allow players to expand their Hero collection, with brand new powers and abilities. Each pack obviously contains extra fun in the form of a minifigure, a vehicle or gadget. The Back to the Future Doc Brown Fun Pack contains the iconic absent-minded scientist Doc Brown and his Traveling Time Train (which can be rebuilt into the Flying Time Machine & Missile Blast Time Train). Players can activate Doc’s Hacking, Technology, Fix it, and Drone abilities to crack puzzles and defeat enemies. The train can fly, jump and travel through time back to the past (and then Back to the Future!) You can collect the purple coins to make upgrades too. This set also plays The Power of Love from the film.
Conclusions of LEGO® Dimensions™ Ghostbusters and Back to the Future
I think it was really interesting that my 6 year old loved these sets (and particularly that he was asking for Ghostbusters) as these are from films from his parent’s youth – and he has never seen the film. I love how LEGO® are bringing back such treasures from our time and letting our own children enjoy them too. It was also a great opportunity to discuss the fact that Doc Brown is also called Emmett, like the star of The LEGO Movie! The sets were easy enough for my 6 year old to build, following the on screen instructions – only occasionally requiring help.
LEGO Dimensions is available for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment systems and Nintendo´s Wii U™ system. A Starter Kit is required to play with the Expansion packs.
I was sent 2 Expansion packs for the purpose of review. All words and opinions are my own.
We’ve just discovered Lego Dimensions but have yet to add to the collection. I’ve clearly been living under a rock… they’ve already released so many expansions!
