Character’s Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion Playset (including 5 inch action Scooby figure) features a spring loaded cannon, dropping chandelier trap door, ghoul hands and clattering doors. This spooky playset was an instant hit with the boys (note I have no girls but it is suitable for both). Straight away they recognised the iconic Scooby-Doo branding (colours and font). The Scooby Doo figure was very recognisable. It is a very flexible figure, with joints in the legs and the tail moves. This means that Scooby Doo has the ability to sit, stand and lie down – adding to the stories that can be created.
The Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion has so much going on with its interactive features and provides lots of imaginative play. The box explains all the different traps, dangers and surprises but the boys easily figured them all out without looking. There was something about this toy that just made them want to play – maybe it was the excitement of helping Scooby Doo searching around seeing what they could trigger.
The mansion is set on two levels with removable stairs. The outside looks very spooky with eyes peering through the walls. As you approach the front door there’s a loose step which triggers the spring loaded doors to fly open. As you walk in a ghoul pops up from under the ground (triggered by a button) and his green hands just poke out: Either stamp on the trapdoor (and get him to go away again) or run for the stairs! But be careful as you walk up the stairs as you may be surprised by sudden movement under your feet. Above be careful that the loose chandelier does not fall on your head! Aim the cannon and fire real missiles to scare off those grizzly ghouls but don’t lean on the mirror of fate as you may fall through the trapdoor it releases!
The Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion Playset is visually very good. It has lots of details throughout, such as wooden floors cob webs, and cracked walls. It is a good solid set and highly playable without being broken. It is a good size (40x14x33cm) for easy storage. It is very portable as there is a hole in the roof (making it easy to carry) and there aren’t too many pieces. The Scooby figure is a good size even for small hands, but still fits throughout the Mansion. The appearance of all the parts are very realistic looking (such as the details on the chandalier).
It would be nice to have some other characters with Scooby Doo but the boys loved The Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion Playset and incorporated it into their play with other toys. I would definitely recommend it.
