THORPE PARK – For thrill seekers

THE SWARM

I guess it was inevitable that with 4 boys, with varying age gaps, that I would end up with a family of thrill-seekers. You may see that we absolutely love family days out to theme and water parks, already visiting many places looking for thrills such as Flamingoland, Legoland Windsor, and Paulton’s Park – as well as holidaying in Duinrell- and visiting various waterparks. The biggest problem as a family is that my oldest has loved to go on these big thrill seeking rides, and to be honest myself and my husband aren’t keen on them, and he doesn’t really want to go on them alone. Luckily his little brother turned 10 last week and is now over the magic 1.4m to ride with him so we are planning a visit to THORPE PARK; described as the Nation’s Thrill Capital, constantly pushing the boundaries with new rides, this is the ideal place to take them, with their new ride THE SWARM (2012), the UK’s first winged rollercoaster, where riders (over 1.4m) brave it backwards! Then there’s SAW – The Ride (2009), the world’s first horror movie themed rollercoaster (although not recommended for those under 12 years old), Stealth (2006), one of Europe’s fastest and tallest rollercoasters and Colossus (2002), the world’s first ten inversion rollercoaster, as well as attractions such as Rush (2005), the world’s largest Speed Swing and Slammer (2005), Europe’s first Sky Swat and Tidal Wave (1.2 m height restriction).

There are over 25 rides and attractions, including plenty of rides for the whole family such as Zodiac, manic carpet ride Quantum and Flying fish, and, as all the boys are now over 1m, they can now experience they can experience the thrill of the newly refurbished X, an illuminated ride through dynamic coloured lighting! With the new Neptune’s beach, where we can make a splash on the Wet Wet Wet Water slides or paddle in the pool.

If we go between Friday August 23rd and Sunday September 1st 2013 we can also benefit from their Sun SCREAM – FREE family fun extras, including daytime silent discos, adrenaline-fuelled stunts, plus freestyle hip-hop and beatbox performances and workshops. This all centres round the Parks’ iconic rollercoasters.

If one day isn’t enough there is overnight stays at the park in the newly opened Crash Pad, £64 pp, which includes accommodation, 2 days at the park and breakfast!
