Young Readers Star Wars Books

The Young Readers books are graded by band colours: level 1 are simple stories for new and developing readers; level 2 are engaging stories for readers growing in confidence and independence; and level 3 are longer, more challenging stories for newly fluent readers. The Star Wars level 1 book – Escape from Darth Vader, was beautifully illustrated and a great introduction to Star Wars for new fans, or filled with familiar characters for established fans. I liked how each page had just a small amount to read and an illustration – helping the reader to build confidence. The level 2 Star Wars book, Use the Force! Had more words on each page – and a lot with two sentences. Our 6 year old has a global developmental delay and he enjoyed these books. I found them easy for him to get into and short enough to hold his interest.

Star Wars Starfighter Workshop

The Star Wars Starfighter Workshop is a hardback split into two parts: A Story and Puzzle Book on one side; and a make your own X-Wing and Tie Fighter on the other. This book is suitable for slightly older readers (recommended ages 7+) with problems to solve and fact files of the characters. Beautifully illustrated with great detail in cartoon format. This book is great for developing skills – such as drawing, observation and following instructions. Building the X-Wing and Tie Fighter has detailed instructions (which must be read it can’t be made just by looking at the pictures) and the parts are well labelled and ready to just fold – there are no stickers to add, or glue/sellotape required making this an easy to assemble project with no mess. When built they measure 8x31cms and 22.5x21cms. Please note that all the parts need pressing out first and it is not built in order of pages – this is probably to save on wastage material.

Star Wars Treasury – The Original Trilogy

The Star Wars Treasury – The Original Trilogy is a hardback of over 200 pages, “following the adventures of Luke Skywalker from the deserts of Tatooine to the ice plains of Hoth and beyond, as he battles to liberate the galaxy from the evil Emperor Palpatine.” Beautifully illustrated artwork with a mix of photos, pictures from the screenplays and illustrations. Divided into three easy distinguishable parts – Episode IV: A New Hope; Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; and Episode VI: Return of The Jedi. This book is suitable for more able readers – but will also be enjoyed by younger children if it is read to them due to the imagery and easy to understand content. I do, however, find that they may not understand all the words.

  1. I saw them in realease order and to be honest, I think they should be watched in that order too – from old movie props to great modern technology – it only makes sense!

  2. The order in which they were filmed. 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3 and now, as the Force is about to Awaken, episode 7… I can barely wait! We have a little boy arriving next year, and my partner has already decided to name him after Luke Skywalker! 🙂

  3. Release order definitely, not just because I am old school but I think watching the prequels would ruin some of the story in the original films

  4. I saw them in release order which was a long time ago now so can’t remember all the bits. My son is just getting into Star Wars so he will see the new film first then probably watch all the other films in release order

  5. In the order they were released. The oiginal three were addictive and set off life long loves for many people = however the first in the series – whilst good – was not AS good and may not have seduced people into watching the second.

  6. This is a current debate in my house, we want to show them to the kids. I think 456123, hubby thinks 123456. Not much help!

  7. 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 7 because that’s how they were made and the earlier films explain a lot when you get to the later ones xx

  8. I never got why they show the newest ones first, i like to see the story from the beginning so it doesn’t get confusing! X

  9. In release order but really it’s a matter of personal choice. I don’t like them at all but my husband and kids are really into it!

  10. Starting with the original ‘New Hope’ episode from back in 1977, then ‘Empire’ followed by ‘Jedi’….completely skip the last three that were made as they were terrible and pick up again with the new ‘Force Awakens’ in December….you know it makes sense!? May the force be forever with you! 🙂

  11. Have got all the DVDs and when we do watch them (not all in one night but over a month) we now watch them as 1,2,3,4,5,6 as it becomes a ‘story’ then.

  14. I think release order because that seems to flow in terms of the way the director envisaged it, but I can see the other arguments.

  15. Better to watch them in the right order and then the story will just flow properly so watch films in order of 4,5,6,1,2,3,and then the latest 7

  16. I would say watch them 1,2,3,4,5,6 because then the epic story flows, but if you do lines like Luke-I am your father aren’t such epic reveals so 4,5,6,1,2,3 makes sense as well ………….

  17. Although episode order makes sense I think they should be watched in release order because of the advances in technology, the old movies are really dated and therefore I think they should be watched in release order.

  18. So glad my girl was never into Star Wars, for I just don’t care what order you watch the things. I do remember seeing the first one in the cinema with my Dad. Fairly sure I slept through most of it, though I did love Princess Leia’s hair. Rach was more a Sonic the hedgehog and FF7 kind of girl.

  19. I have absolutely no idea as I have never watched any but I would love to win the giveaway for my Jedi grandson who is an avid fan 🙂

  20. The order in which they were filmed – audiences are used to watching prequels nowadays so I don’t think it matters that are not in the order the novels were written.
