About the Stegosaurus
Dinosaurs are possibly one of the most appealing historical things to children. The Stegosaurus, with its distinctive row of kite-shaped plates rising vertically along its back, is one of the most easily identifiable of the dinosaurs. Pronounced STEG-oh-sore-us this plant eater lived about 150 million years ago in the Jurassic Period. Its name means roof lizard and it was 9 metres long (about the size of a bus!). It also had a very small head and brain for its size and spikes at the end of its flexible tail.
.Actively doing something is far more effective than just being told, kids love to learn through play. I was really thrilled to hear that my sonβs school were learning about dinosaurs all this term, because I am personally a bit of a fan. In fact I even had a dinosaur birthday party! THE GREEN BOARD Co do a lovely range of dinosaur products and we were very excited to be able to review the Robotic Stegosaurus.
About the Robotic Stegosaurus
Bring to life your own walking and roaring Stegosaurus, with just 77 pre-cut wooden pieces a sound controller and a motor.
No glue or tools are needed (apart from a screwdriver to insert the batteries). Recommended for ages 6 and over (however I do feel a 6 year old would struggle to do it alone).
With step by step instructions it really is easy to assemble. Although the instructions and pieces of wood could be labelled in a more logical order. Not suitable for small children due to the small parts. The final product is sound activated β clap once to make it roar, move and bite; twice β roar, move quickly and bite, and three times roar walk and bite. Roughly it took an hour to build.
You can then paint the product a colour of your choosing. I think this is a great opportunity to head for the books, the internet or even the Natural History Museum to take a look at what colours dinosaurs really were.

That is so weird but so awesome! My kids would so love that!
Looks complicated but fun!
ohh this sounds like a challenge, very nice!!
I like creative projects to keep the kids happily occupied
will make my boys busy:)
This appeals to me because, when I was a child, I started to buy one of those magazine which gave away segments of a dinosaur, which you were supposed to collect and build. It looked similar to this. But, as most parents will find out at some point, the price of these magazines increase as the week go on, i.e. itβs a scam. So I never finished it. Therefore, it would be nice to win this for my little cousin, so he could actually build it and complete it. Which is an experience I didnβt get π
I think we would paint it brown, and try and make it as realistic as possible.
I like things like this to let the kids use their brains as they work out how things go together.
This products will allow my children to be creative and express the imagination! I would pain the mammoth pink but if my girls were to paint it, they would probably choose every colour under the rainbow!
Looks brilliant – love things like this that keep the kids (and parents) occupied for ages! The end result looks great! I would paint it green!
I love the fact that it is something crafty i can do with the kids , they would love t x
I have shared on facebook!
I’d try and keep it true to life and paint it a brown or an orangey brown like Manny from Ice Age. It does look a bit complicated though so I’d better do it and not leave it to the hubby! π
my eldest loves making things, lego etc so i think this would be perfect for him! my youngest loves dinosaurs so he would have just as much fun watching him make it
My grandsons love dinosaurs and would love this. My son was always making dinosaur models and he would love to help the boys with this. I think they would paint it green

It is just so incredibly cool! And because you can paint it yourself, it would appeal to my daughter who likes to be girly without being girly…so it would have to be pink!!

I love what you did with the video, that music, your questions, oh wow I got so involved. I was shouting green at the screen, then I realised it was a mammoth, so maybe brown would be better!

Looks super cool & fun! Would have loved as a kid!
My pc speakers are broken so I can’t hear the questions in the video so I’ll just have to tell you i n at least 10 words:
‘because he looks like my great uncle hector and I’d love to add him to my ever-growing dino collection!’
Oh lovely. My son loves dinosaurs.
I think I had a dinosaur that looked a bit like that when I was little.. wonder what happened to it.. perhaps it got extincted. π
I love wooden toys π like the idea of not using glue as it can get a bit messy sometimes. My dream job was to be a palaeontologist and I passed it onto my son who is obsessed ith dinosaurs more than I’ve ever been and it would be a fantastic thing for him to make one by himself π
and we’d paint it orange π
I shared this competition
The plywood “skeleton-like” models are really popular in this house but one with a motor – that’s really exciting! I think there’d be an argument over whether to paint it really authentic greens and browns or go mad and have a rainbow dino!
It appeals to me as I have 2 young daughters, my eldest is nearly 7 and she would love to do this with me and i’m pretty sure she would do something wacky and have it multicoloured

This is a great idea for kids, challenging but fun and educational all at the same time.

My daughter would paint it pink!
My boys Dino mad, we went to visit nanny in London last year and went to natural history museum couldn’t drag him away from dinosaurs! It would probably be dark green.
This appeals because it’s a toy that needs to be built before it can be played with, so it will keep little ones occupied for longer!
We would probably paint it purple because it’d match the living room!!
I know the kids will love building it and also playing with it. They would colour it red for danger

It’s make and do for big boys. My son would love it
Love this creative idea. I would paint it brown but my grandchildren may have other ideas. I doubt they would agree on one colour so it might end up a multi-coloured mammoth π
I like the creativity of it, the actual building would appeal to my eldest where as the playing with it would appeal to my youngest. I think they would paint it a neon colour as that seems to be all the rage with them at the minute!

We have the T-rex it’s d oily wife does the making so she will paint it pink
An activity that will keep my daughter busy for more than 10 minutes!
I would paint it brown and green like I think it would have looked like
l can’t believe that it is so quick & easy to build as it seems to be in the video.
Wow!! This looks challenging – Purple People eating dinosaur π xx
Love this , we normally do this sort of kit on a weekend as a family to learn something educational and join in as a group. I think they boys would probobly paint it green/brown.
